Product Details

This compact Japanese byōbu folding screen was made as a refined backdrop for ceremonial and seasonal displays, and it immediately stands out for the warm glow of genuine gold leaf. The surface catches light subtly and adds depth to any setting—whether you place it behind ikebana, ceramics, or a small sculptural arrangement.

Dimensions: height 69 cm, width 33 cm (x2 panels), 30 cm (x2), depth 1 cm.

The decoration depicts a classic sansui (mountain-and-water) landscape: flowing lines of water, drifting cloud forms, and layered hills and mountains dotted with trees in soft, seasonal tones. The scene is framed in black lacquer and finished with ornate gold-toned corner protectors, giving the screen an elegant, finished look. The reverse side is covered in indigo-colored textile.

At the bottom of the gold-leaf panel, the signature appears in gold: 来島 (Kurushima), with 久月 (Kyūgetsu) beneath it and a red square hanko seal. Kyūgetsu is also known as Ningyō no Kyūgetsu (人形の久月), an established name in Japan for traditional display pieces and seasonal decoration—placing this screen clearly within that classic presentation tradition.

A beautiful contemporary interior accent as well: use it as a luxurious backdrop for bonsai, ikebana, a tokonoma-inspired corner, a tea-ceremony setup, or a quiet still life.

In perfect condition and accompanied by the original cardboard packaging.
