Decorative Japanese Nagadō Taiko Matsuri Drum, 1950s

This impressive Japanese taiko is a true statement piece: a monumental drum with warm, timeworn wood grain and a strong, almost sculptural presence in any space.

The body is made from solid wood, showing beautiful flowing grain patterns and natural tonal variations. Both the top and bottom rims are finished with a wide band of black leather, secured with large, rounded studs that give it that unmistakable taiko look. The drumheads are animal hide and display an authentic, gently used surface. Sturdy metal rings and fittings sit on the sides, finished with a decorative rope tassel as an extra detail.

This piece is offered as a decorative object, not as a musical instrument. Thanks to its scale and weight, it works beautifully as a display object, pedestal, or even an unusual high side table in an interior, shop, gallery, or hospitality setting.
