Japanese Wooden Hibachi with Relief Decoration, 1950s

Atmospheric round Japanese hibachi with a deep dark-brown, almost black lacquer and a soft, rounded silhouette.

Dimensions: height 21 cm, diameter 32 cm.

The exterior is richly decorated with meandering vines and heart-shaped leaves in shades of red and orange, applied in low relief on the surface. Inside sits the original removable copper liner, which would traditionally be filled with charcoal to warm a room or heat water for tea.

Today, this hibachi is primarily a distinctive decorative piece: perfect as a planter (with a separate pot inside), as a striking bowl on a low table, or as a sculptural accent in a niche or on a sideboard.

The lacquer shows visible signs of age and use, with scratches and a few areas where the relief and decoration have been touched, as visible in the photos. These marks add a beautiful, lived-in wabi-sabi character that works wonderfully in Japanese, bohemian or eclectic interiors — a piece that brings both history and a soft, warm colour accent into your home.
