Product Details

A charming trio of traditional Japanese kokeshi dating from the 1980s to the early 2000s, created by three different master artisans representing the Tsuchiyu and Tsugaru traditions.

Dimensions: tallest H 37 cm, smallest H 28 cm. Diameter of all three: 9 cm.

The three wooden dolls are distinguished by their elegant forms, harmonious proportions and refined hand-painted decoration. The vibrant combination of red, deep purple, black and natural wood, complemented by delicate horizontal lines and graphic patterns, creates a beautifully balanced composition.

The tallest kokeshi, measuring 37 cm in height, is signed by Sato Kyūya (1935–2016), a traditional kokeshi master from Tsuchiyu.

The medium-sized kokeshi bears the signature of Sakuma Yoshimitsu (born 1940), also associated with the Tsuchiyu tradition. The base additionally features the handwritten date September 15, 1982.

The smallest kokeshi, measuring 28 cm in height, was created by Mori Mitsuo (born 1955), an artisan of the Tsugaru-Nuruyu tradition.

In beautiful vintage condition, with a natural patina and minor signs of age and use.

A decorative and collectible ensemble that reflects the richness of traditional Japanese kokeshi craftsmanship. The contrasting silhouettes, colours and heights create a harmonious composition, bringing warmth, character and authentic Japanese charm to any interior.
