Product Details

A beautiful Japanese creative kokeshi by renowned artist Tanaka Harumasa, featuring a delicate floral design in warm colours and subtle pyrographic details.

Dimensions: H 31 × Ø 8 cm.

The hand-turned wooden figure has a large, rounded head with deep black painted hair and a slender, gently tapering body. The warm natural wood tones and visible grain give the kokeshi a particularly soft and elegant appearance.

The body is decorated with graceful flowers in warm shades of yellow, orange and red, surrounded by deep green leaves. The outlines have been created using pyrography, a traditional wood-burning technique. The combination of burned lines and hand-painted colours gives the floral design subtle depth and a lively character.

Tanaka Harumasa was among the influential artists of the Japanese sōsaku kokeshi movement. His work is known for its elegant simplicity, refined shapes and colourful floral decorations. In 1965, he received the prestigious Japanese Prime Minister's Award for his design Dōjō.

The artist's signature is burned into the wood near the base of the figure.

In lovely vintage condition, with light signs of age.

A distinctive collector's piece and an elegant decorative accent for a contemporary interior.
