Vintage Wooden Book Rack with Children’s Paintings, Japan, 1990s

Vintage wooden book rack with children’s paintings from Japan, dating from the 1990s. A low, elongated rack in varnished wood, ideal for keeping books neat yet playful on a desk, shelf or windowsill.

Dimensions: height 15 cm, width 44 cm, depth 21 cm.

On one side a cheerful yellow creature with big ears is painted on a turquoise background, surrounded by musical notes and the text “I LOVE BOOK!” – a sweet little ode to reading and picture books. The other side shows a white rabbit with pink ears and the text “USAGI” (Japanese for “rabbit”), with small hearts around it, as if it came straight from a child’s sketchbook.

The paintings have that charming, slightly naïve feel that immediately recalls school projects and children’s rooms. Thanks to its practical size, the rack is easy to move and place anywhere. Perfect for children’s books, magazines or comics in a kids’ room, but also great on a workspace or in a studio where you want to add a playful Japanese touch.
