Set of Japanese Hibachi, Negoro-nuri, 1950s

Very well-preserved set of traditional Japanese hibachi (braziers) from the 1950s, carefully kept in their original wooden storage chest with custom-made fabric sleeves.

Dimensions: height 26 cm, diameter 27 cm. Dimensions of storage chest: height 30 cm, width 62 cm, depth 30 cm.

Originally used to keep charcoal warm, these vessels now make an exceptional and timeless interior accent.

The hibachi are finished in dark brown urushi lacquer with warm, red-toned underlayers in the Negoro-nuri tradition. In this technique the deep red subtly emerges through the darker top layer, creating an elegant, lively contrast. The clean cylindrical form and glossy surface give the pieces a serene, minimalist presence.
