Set of Japanese Ceramic Yunomi Tea Cups, 1980s

Beautiful set of two Japanese yunomi in a modern style, with a slightly larger, comfortable size.

Dimensions: height 12 cm, diameter 8.5 cm.

The cups are thrown from a warm, lightly speckled clay and have an elegant raised foot, which makes them feel light yet secure in the hand.

The glaze is both soft and graphic: a light greenish-grey base with pronounced crackle, overlaid with broad vertical fields in pastel blue and soft pink, intersected by a dark line that continues from the exterior into the interior. The rim and foot are neatly finished, while the underside is unglazed and bears the maker’s signature.

Thanks to their slightly larger size, these yunomi are perfect for Japanese tea, but also for coffee, chai or a small soup. The thick wall keeps drinks warm for longer, while the foot lifts the cup from the table surface. Comfortable to hold, with calm colours and an abstract design, they add a refined Japanese touch to everyday use. In perfect condition, with no chips or cracks.
