​Kokeshi Set on Wooden Base, 1960s, Japan

A charming Japanese kokeshi duo from the 1960s, depicting a mother and her child, both dressed in traditional rainwear.

Dimensions: H 11 × W 10.5 × D 6 cm.

The warm, dark brown wood tones contrast beautifully with the natural wood faces and subtle black and red painted details.

The simple, flowing shapes and difference in height between mother and child give the pair a gentle, endearing appearance. Together, they form a harmonious composition on a wooden base.

The base bears a Japanese inscription referring to Kamisuwa, a locality in the Lake Suwa region of Nagano Prefecture. The piece was likely created as a souvenir from this area.

A Japanese mark is also present on the underside. The maker is unknown.
