Shogi Board on legs — Unique Wooden Display, 1930s
Traditional Japanese shogi board from the early Shōwa period, made as a compact low table on four legs.
Dimensions: height 16.5 cm, width 36 cm, depth 30 cm.
The top features a finely incised grid with a narrow border; the wood shows a warm, even ageing with subtle colour variations and light signs of use. The legs stand out: block-shaped shafts ending in faceted, octagonal feet—an artisanal detail that lends the piece elegance.
The playing surface is in very good condition and fully playable.
Today, it also works beautifully as a wabi-sabi interior accent: a low display platform for ceramics or ikebana, a small tea table for the tea ceremony, or a discreet side table next to a sofa or futon. The mix of clean lines and lived-in patina makes it a strong, timeless piece.
