Vintage Gold-Coloured Metal Japanese Dog Statue, ‘Shiba Inu’, 1960s
A compact yet powerful Japanese dog statue in solid metal, finished in a warm gold colour with a beautifully stylised form.
Dimensions: height 14 cm, width 15 cm, depth 6 cm.
This decorative statue dates from the Shōwa period and depicts a standing Shiba Inu or Akita-type dog, with upright ears, an alert posture and an elegant curled tail. Japanese dog figures like this were often used as okimono or lucky objects, symbolising loyalty, protection and vigilance.
The statue has a lively, slightly textured surface beneath the gold-coloured finish. Small dark speckles, patina and subtle signs of age give the piece extra depth and character, without taking away from its decorative strength.
A beautifully made and strongly present object for a desk, cabinet, pedestal, bookshelf or low table. Compact in size, yet striking through its sculptural posture, warm gold tone and quiet symbolism.
