Vintage Japanese Low Stand ‘Karimoku’, 1960–1970
An elegant Japanese display stand in warm reddish-brown lacquered wood, with refined openwork carving and gracefully shaped legs.
Dimensions: height 11 cm, width 48 cm, depth 31 cm.
This vintage Japanese stand dates from the Shōwa period and was made by Karimoku Furniture. The piece has a low rectangular top with a subtly raised edge and a deep reddish-brown lacquer finish with a soft sheen. Along the sides, openwork wood carving forms elegant, cloud-like scroll motifs, giving the stand a light and decorative presence.
The curved legs give the piece a refined silhouette, while the sturdy construction makes it highly suitable as a display object. The original Japanese labels are still present underneath, including the Karimoku brand label and a quality label with material and finish information.
A stylish object for contemporary use: ideal as a low stand for bonsai, ikebana, a special plant, ceramics, a vase or a small sculptural object. The piece is in beautiful vintage condition, with light signs of use consistent with age and use.
