Product Details

Decorative terracotta hibachi from the 1920s.

Dimensions: height 10 cm, width 21 cm x 21 cm.

This authentic terracotta hibachi from the Taishō period (1912-1926) was traditionally used as a heat source beneath a kotatsu in Japan. The firepot was placed under the wooden frame of the kotatsu, allowing warmth to spread evenly beneath a thick futon blanket, providing comfort to those seated around the table.

The hibachi rests on four short supports, and its edges are decorated with a unique relief pattern, carefully hand-embossed into the clay.

This beautiful piece is a unique decorative accent, also perfect for use as a plant stand, vide-poche, and more.
