Mid-Century Japanese Household Medicine Box, 1950s
Charming Japanese medicine storage box from the Shōwa period, once used as a household pharmacy.
Dimensions: height 12 cm, width 18 cm, depth 22 cm.
The drawer with metal handle, as well as the front, top, and side panels, are richly decorated with bold red and black graphics. The inscriptions refer to Kōkendō, a well-known pharmaceutical company from Toyama, and their popular household remedy Rokushin-gan, giving the chest a strong historical character.
Today, this object is not only a tangible piece of Japanese folk history but also a versatile storage piece. Perfect for keeping keys, sewing supplies, stationery, or small collectibles, while at the same time serving as a graphic and decorative accent in any interior.
