Antique Japanese Porcelain Plate – Arita, ca. 1840–1870
Elegant Arita plate in sometsuke (underglaze cobalt blue), featuring a lively hand-painted spring landscape: stylized rocks and waves, lush peonies, and winding karakusa arabesques; at the top, cascading clusters reminiscent of wisteria (fuji). The soft washes and deep brush accents create depth and movement, characteristic of late Edo to early Meiji decoration.
Dimensions: height 4.5 cm, diameter 26 cm.
The exterior is also decorated with a continuous karakusa band in blue. The foot shows three firing spur marks and a four-character mark in the center: 長春富貴 (Chōshun Fugui – “Eternal Spring, Prosperity, and Dignity”), a common auspicious inscription found on 19th-century Arita porcelain.
Condition: antique condition with age-appropriate wear (minor glaze imperfections and a hairline visible along the rim), structurally sound.
A timeless interior accent that combines historical charm with Japanese refinement — beautiful displayed on a table, in a cabinet, or mounted on a wall.
