Highly decorative antique Japanese harvest basket from the Meiji period.

Approximate dimensions: height 16 cm, diameter 42 cm.

These baskets, made from bamboo and reed, are finished with washi paper.

They were traditionally used for harvesting rice, fruits, and herbs. The washi paper was added to prevent anything from falling through the basket.

The paper was darkened, giving the baskets a leather-like appearance.
