Antique Japanese Writing Table / Fuzukue, Early Meiji Period
Antique low Japanese writing table, also known as a fuzukue, dating from the early Meiji period.
Dimensions: height 32 cm, width 74 cm, depth 39 cm.
The table is made of dark wood with a deep reddish-brown to almost black finish, beautifully worn through age and use. Warm wood tones, grain and traces of its original use remain visible throughout. The piece features two drawers of different sizes with simple wooden handles.
With its low horizontal form and timeworn surface, this writing table has a strong sense of character and a beautiful wabi-sabi presence. Today, it works not only as a small Japanese furniture piece, but also as a side table, low display table, plant stand, bonsai stand or pedestal for ikebana, floral arrangements and small art objects.
The table is in authentic antique condition, with visible age-related wear and signs of use consistent with its age.
A soulful and characterful Japanese furniture piece, perfect as a decorative accent in a Japanese, wabi-sabi, rustic, minimalist or eclectic interior.
