Antique Tetsubin, Cast Iron Teapot, circa 1900
An antique Japanese cast iron tetsubin dating from around 1900, featuring a traditional design and a beautiful dark patina.
Dimensions: H 17 × W 13 × D 17 cm.
Dating from the Meiji period, this tetsubin is a fine example of traditional Japanese iron craftsmanship. Its low, rounded body is decorated with a delicate pattern of raised dots, known as the arare motif, inspired by hailstones. The lower section features fine horizontal lines, adding a subtle texture to the overall design.
The tall, curved handle and matching cast iron lid with its small, distinctive knob enhance the elegant and balanced silhouette. Over the years, the iron has developed a warm, dark brown patina.
Traditionally, a tetsubin was used to heat water for the Japanese tea ceremony. Today, it also makes a beautiful decorative object, perfectly suited to both Japanese-inspired and contemporary interiors.
In good antique condition, with natural signs of wear and ageing consistent with its age.
