Decorative Wabi-Sabi Accent, Japanese Wooden Gear Segment, 1890s
Sculptural wooden segment with protruding, individually fitted teeth—an authentic component from the drive mechanism of a traditional Japanese waterwheel (mizuguruma).
Dimensions: height 35 cm, width 83 cm, depth 12 cm. Weight: 14 kg.
The curved beam is constructed with mortise-and-tenon joinery and wooden plugs; traces of use, small old repairs, and a warm, nut-brown tone give the piece a beautifully weathered character.
A bold, minimal object that can be displayed in multiple ways: standing on the central foot, resting on the arc, or set at a slight angle for extra dynamism. Pairs beautifully with greenery—think bonsai, ferns, or climbing plants—and serves as a pure wabi-sabi accent full of history and patina in interiors from modern to rustic.
Sturdy and decorative, with natural age cracks and work marks consistent with its age and function; ready to place.
