Elegant Kokeshi by Shōzan Shidō, 1970s–1980s, Japan

An elegant kokeshi with a long, flowing line and a wonderfully delicate presence.

Dimensions: height 47 cm, base diameter approximately 4.5 cm. The bow extends beyond the body.

Shōzan Shidō (1932–1995) was a leading figure in creative kokeshi. His work received numerous awards, including the prestigious Japanese Prime Minister’s Award. This doll brings together his eye for form and his appreciation of the natural beauty of wood.

The finely painted face, black hair bun and pale bow give the slender figure its distinctive character. Contrasting warm wood tones keep the design calm and refined. A special piece for kokeshi collectors, equally beautiful on its own in an interior.

In very good vintage condition, with minimal signs of wear.
