Enamel Distilled Spirit Advertising Sign — Shōchū, 1940s — Japan
A slim, deep-blue enamel hanging sign with white characters and, at the top, a red-and-white logo featuring the familiar Otafuku face.
Dimensions: height 120 cm, width 22 cm, depth 1 cm.
The text includes 商標登録 (“registered trademark”) and 焼酎販売店 (“shōchū retail shop”)—shōchū is a Japanese distilled spirit, typically 20–30% ABV, made from sweet potato, barley, rice, etc.
Age is clearly visible: chips and oxidation, especially along the sides, and scratches—consistent with use and period. Despite the edge wear, it remains a graphically strong, highly decorative piece that adds instant atmosphere.
Ideal as striking wall decor in a loft, bar, kitchen or studio, or as a graphic accent among art and collectibles. Its tall, slender format is easy to place and delivers immediate impact.
