Product Details

An exceptional Japanese folk art ship model from the 1950s, handcrafted from weathered wood, old metal components and an intriguing assortment of found objects.

Dimensions: H 12 × W 87 × D 12 cm.

The elongated hull is fashioned from a single piece of aged wood, its natural grain, cracks and silvery-grey patina giving the work a beautiful, distinctive character.

With remarkable ingenuity, rusty nails, fragments of wood, metal wire and other repurposed materials have been assembled into an imaginative vessel. Rows of nails form miniature railings, while larger ones serve as cannons and other nautical details. Even an old bicycle bell, a seashell and a stone have found their place in this extraordinary composition.

The raised wooden superstructure and various small constructions give the piece the appearance of an old warship. The contrast between the weathered wood, dark rusted metal and unexpected materials makes it fascinating to admire from every angle.

A wonderful example of Japanese folk art, bringing together creativity and a remarkable sense of form. The natural ageing of the wood and metal contributes to its authentic character.

Its elongated silhouette makes it particularly striking when displayed on a sideboard, console or large wall shelf.

An exceptionally decorative piece for collectors and enthusiasts of folk art, outsider art and unconventional objects.
