Large Japanese Wooden Sculpture of a Girl – Okita Toshinori, 1960
A striking and sensitively crafted sculpture in solid wood, depicting a young girl fastening her belt — an everyday gesture captured with great subtlety and emotional depth. The warm wood displays a beautiful grain pattern and patina, while the soft texture and flowing lines of the hair and clothing reflect exceptional craftsmanship.
Dimensions: height 172 cm, width 56 cm, depth 29 cm. Weight: 43 kg.
The sculpture shows clear stylistic similarities to the work of Okita Toshinori (沖田利紀) — a renowned Japanese sculptor known for his tranquil portrayals of girls in contemplative poses, often carved from a single block of wood. The quiet expression and graceful posture are reminiscent of his piece “Dandelion and Girl.”
The sculpture rests on an integrated wooden base and bears an engraved signature on the back, indicating a Japanese maker — further study may confirm the attribution.
A rare and expressive artwork that brings calm, craftsmanship, and character to any interior or art collection.
In excellent condition, with a beautiful surface and light signs of age consistent with the material and period.
