Large Chinese Lacquered Drum, ca. 1970–1980

Large decorative Chinese drum, probably dating from the 1970s–1980s, finished in glossy reddish-brown and orange lacquer with gold-coloured nailheads around the upper and lower rim.

The drum has a strong rounded shape and a rich decorative presence. The deep reddish-brown lacquer is combined with an orange border and gold-coloured studs, giving the object a striking and festive appearance. The sides are decorated with painted scenes featuring children, fish and floral details. The top is finished with a circular decorative border with elegant ornamental motifs.

This type of Chinese drum refers to traditional ceremonial and festive drums, but in the second half of the 20th century it was also often made as a decorative interior piece. Today, this piece works beautifully as a statement object in an entrance hall, retail space, restaurant, showroom or eclectic interior. It can also be used as a low side table, drum table or sculptural object.

The drum is in good vintage condition, with normal signs of use and age, light scratches, small lacquer losses and patina consistent with age and use.
