Product Details

Impressive and colorful Daruma doll (Daruma ningyō), traditionally crafted from papier-mâché. This example dates to the Shōwa period (ca. 1950–1970) and features a unique decoration that sets it apart from the classic red Daruma.

Dimensions: height 45 cm, width 35 cm, depth 32 cm.

The rounded figure displays the characteristic wide eyes and bold eyebrows, framed in deep blue with golden accents. On the belly, a Japanese deity is painted in gold and red, while the sides are adorned with elegant sakura blossoms. The back bears the inscription 賀茂神社 (Kamo Jinja), referring to a Shinto shrine.

The vibrant palette of red, blue, black, and gold makes this piece a true eye-catcher. Its hand-painted surface shows traces of use and age consistent with its vintage character, yet it remains in good condition.

In Japan, Daruma are traditionally regarded as symbols of perseverance, good fortune, and success. With its large scale and distinctive decoration, this piece is not only a spiritual object but also a striking decorative statement for any interior.
