Product Details

Decorative shodō (書道) – Japanese calligraphy from the Shōwa period, professionally framed and ready to hang.
Dimensions: height 50 cm, width 138.5 cm, depth 4.5 cm.

This wide, horizontal piece has a strong yet calm presence. The calligraphy is executed in deep black ink, with expressive brushwork that shifts from wet and full to drier, more textured strokes, so you can clearly sense the pace and energy of the hand. The red name seals (hanko) create a beautiful counterbalance and give the work its authentic Japanese signature.

The exact reading or meaning cannot be confirmed with certainty. Because of the free, cursive writing style, this kind of calligraphy is intentionally interpretative: it is as much about movement, balance, and the rhythm of the ink as it is about the words themselves. That is precisely why it works so well in a contemporary interior—graphic and timeless, yet warm and human.

The work is carefully mounted on a textile mat with a subtle gold-toned edge and professionally framed behind plexiglass.

In good condition. The back shows superficial water marks, but these have not affected the calligraphy itself.
