Ikebana Flower Vase by Sakujiro Terao, 1960s, Japan.
A very rare ikebana flower vase, attributed to Sakujiro Terao (紫原窯, Murasakihara kiln). The accompanying original leaflet names the artist and kiln and includes a short biography.
Dimensions: height 26 cm, diameter 15 cm.
The vase has four softly rounded sides. Each face is decorated with a delicate, hand-painted motif under the glaze, giving the piece a beautiful all-around presence and a subtle play of light across the crackled surface.
A rare find for ceramic collectors, and at the same time an authentic accent piece that brings quiet character to an interior.
The vase is stamped on the base. It comes with a wooden storage box and the original leaflet; the calligraphy on the box describes a Shino/Mino piece and appears not to have been written specifically for this vase.
