Japanese Lacquer Tray, Obon with Fuji-mon, 1970s
This refined Japanese obon tray is entirely finished in deep black urushi lacquer. Its high gloss and clean, slightly raised rim give the tray a calm, graphic presence that works beautifully in both modern and classic interiors.
Dimensions: height 3.5 cm, width 35 cm, depth 23 cm.
At the center is a mon-style emblem featuring a fuji-mon, a motif associated with wisteria. The subtle gold accent in the middle creates an elegant contrast with the mirror-like black surface.
Originally, this type of tray was used as a shōkōbon (incense tray) or to place offerings and objects in a butsuma (Buddhist altar room). Today it suits contemporary living just as well: as a serving tray for tea, sake or an aperitif, as a display for ceramics, candles or a small ikebana arrangement, or as a stylish catch-all on a sideboard or entry table.
The tray is in perfect condition and comes with its original cardboard box.
