Product Details

A Japanese Miroku Bosatsu mask dating from around 1960, featuring a serene expression and a deep black finish.

Dimensions: H 28 × W 17 × D 9 cm.

The mask is inspired by Miroku Bosatsu, an important figure in Japanese Buddhism who symbolises wisdom, compassion and future enlightenment. The design references the famous Buddhist sculpture at Chūgū-ji Temple in Nara, Japan.

The gentle facial features, subtle smile, two rounded hair buns and long flowing locks give the mask its distinctive appearance. The dark finish highlights the refined contours and understated character of the face.

The interior retains its original paper label with Japanese calligraphy and a red hanko seal.

The mask is fitted with a hanging cord and makes a beautiful decorative accent in a Japanese, wabi-sabi or contemporary interior.

In good vintage condition.
