Product Details

This compact Japanese archive cabinet with five drawers is a rare find where functionality and aesthetics come together beautifully.

Dimensions: height 41 cm, width 27 cm, depth 29 cm.

The cabinet has a restrained front in warm-toned wood, framed by a darker surround that adds depth. The metal pulls keep the design clean and timeless, while the visible grain and gentle wear give the piece a rich, lived-in character.

What makes it truly special are the original paper labels with Japanese calligraphy on each drawer. They lend an almost archival charm and also reveal how the cabinet was once used: as a carefully organised system for desk and studio supplies. Based on the labels, it likely held a mix of writing tools and paper goods (such as brushes, cards, and mail items), inks and pigments, and—towards the bottom—items related to seal work: tools and materials for hanko/inkan stamps. These traces of its former purpose make the object feel personal and convincingly authentic.

In a contemporary interior it works in several ways. In a minimalist space it adds warmth, texture, and detail without feeling busy; in an eclectic setting it brings a genuine Japanese layer. Practically, it is ideal for documents, letters, sketches, photographs, studio materials, labels, small tools, or cables—neatly divided across five drawers. Thanks to its compact footprint, it is also easy to style with a plant, a vase, or a small lamp.

Condition: very good, with light age-appropriate wear; ready to serve for many more years.
