Japanese Bundai, Low Writing Table, late Meiji period

This distinctive writing table from the 1910s features a long, elegant top set on two profiled, pierced supports with a central medallion—typical of the bundai—giving the piece a graceful, almost temple-like presence.

Dimensions: height 25 cm, width 102 cm, depth 37 cm.

The surface shows a warm, deep-brown patina with attractive traces of use: fine scratches, gentle rubs, and a few ink marks from writing. One of the pierced supports has a small age-related loss to the carving; unobtrusive and fully in keeping with its wabi-sabi character.
