Japanese Glazed Earthenware Jar, Echizen-yaki, 1900s

Old Japanese earthenware jar with a strong, well-balanced form and a warm, deep brown glaze.

Dimensions: height 30 cm, diameter 27 cm.

Its rounded body, restrained silhouette, and partly unglazed base give the piece a calm yet distinctive presence.

At the top, the jar features a broad rolled rim; the losses and wear along this edge give it exactly the weathered character that makes old utilitarian pottery so appealing.

The sheen of the brown glaze contrasts beautifully with the lighter crackled interior and the rough, unglazed area at the base.

Beautiful as a standalone object in an interior, but also very well suited for styling with dry branches, flowering stems, or understated seasonal decoration. Even on its own, the jar has enough presence to bring depth and atmosphere to a shelf, console, or floor corner.
