Beautiful Japanese antique wooden masu box, dating back to the Meiji period.

Dimensions: Height 24.5 cm, Width 35 cm, Depth 35 cm.

A decorative interior piece with a unique patina, perfect for use as an original plant stand, catch-all tray (vide-poche), or storage box for writing and drawing materials.

The wooden box is adorned on all sides with various branding and verification marks.

It is reinforced with metal corners and features handles on both sides.

Masu boxes are traditional Japanese measuring containers (Itomasu), originally used to measure rice. They came in various sizes and were used for purposes such as paying land taxes to the lord—often in the form of rice or salt—or for measuring rice and barley during cooking.
