Japanese Calligraphy Wall Piece “Banjin Shiseikun”, 1970s
Japanese printed calligraphy on paper, mounted on soft gold brocade with a subtle floral pattern and framed in warm wood.
Dimensions: height 38 cm, width 93 cm, depth 3 cm. In good, original condition.
The text presents the famous Banjin Shiseikun—the life lessons attributed to shōgun Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543–1616), a classic moral guide that praises humility, patience, and self-discipline.
The work is laid out as a sequence of short lines in elegant script, each beginning with the character 一 (“ichi”, one), forming a concise list of timeless principles: cultivate calm, avoid haste, acknowledge one’s own faults. The piece is signed at the lower margin with a red hanko seal.
A decorative and meaningful wall piece that conveys serenity, discipline, and Japanese aesthetics—ideal for a restrained, wabi-sabi or zen interior.
