Japanese Ceramic Toban with Abstract Drip Glaze, circa 1970
Japanese ceramic toban dating from around 1970, designed as a square decorative panel with an abstract glaze composition, characteristic of Japanese studio pottery from the late Shōwa period.
Dimensions: H 3 × W 28.5 × D 28 cm
The surface combines a warm off-white glaze with deep green and almost black flowing glazes. The natural glaze movements, subtle colour variations and pronounced crackle effect give the piece an organic, almost landscape-like character.
The understated composition and rich texture reflect the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic. A distinctive ceramic artwork that can be displayed as wall art or on a stand, complementing minimalist and contemporary interiors.
Vintage condition with pronounced glaze crazing, areas of wear and visible cracking, including on the reverse.
