Large Japanese Kimono Tansu Chest – 1920s

Low Japanese kimono tansu with three wide, practical drawers.

Dimensions: height 49 cm, width 93.5 cm, depth 45 cm.

The chest is made in warm-toned wood with a beautiful natural grain, combined with dark iron hardware, corner reinforcements, and clean rectangular handles.

The front has a sober, clear-lined appearance, yet gains a great deal of character from the lively wood grain and refined metalwork. The sides are also well finished and fitted with two sturdy carrying handles, designed to make the piece easier to move.

Thanks to its low, wide proportions, this tansu works beautifully in a contemporary interior. A striking piece for a living room, hallway, or bedroom, but also very suitable as a low storage unit or display piece beneath artwork, with ceramics, books, or plants on top.
