Japanese Kutani Yaki Vase with Cranes – Saikyū-gama, ca. 1980

An elegant, handmade vase from Japan, crafted at the renowned Saikyū-gama kiln and signed on the underside with 彩玖窯製 ("made by Saikyū-gama"). The piece belongs to the rich tradition of Kutani ware, known for its refined decoration and high-quality craftsmanship.

This vase combines traditional Japanese aesthetics with a modern finish characteristic of ceramics from the 1980s. Its shape is soft and rounded, with a gently tapering neck that gives it a balanced and harmonious presence.

The decoration depicts a serene mountain landscape, bathed in warm golden-yellow tones and surrounded by misty greens. Two cranes glide through the sky – a classic Japanese symbol of happiness and long life. The fine craquelure glaze adds depth and texture to the surface.
