Minimalist Japanese Writing Desk from the 1920s
This beautiful Japanese writing table dates back to the 1920s and radiates timeless elegance.
Dimensions: Height: 36 cm, Width: 88 cm, Depth: 38 cm
The minimalist design and warm wood tones, accentuated by a rich natural grain, give the piece a refined and serene presence. With two practical drawers fitted with elegant metal handles, this low table offers convenient storage for writing tools or small accessories.
A remarkable detail: inside one of the drawers is a handwritten message in Japanese dated Showa 42 (1967), along with a charming drawing of an oni (traditional demon figure). The inscription includes the phrase "Fuku wa uchi" ("Good fortune in!")—a traditional chant from the Setsubun festival. It appears to be a playful note from two schoolchildren, Kiyoshi and Kimiko, referencing “no-fight chocolate,” adding a whimsical and nostalgic touch to this antique.
This versatile piece can serve as a writing table, tea table, or side table, and is perfect for displaying ceramics, books, plants, or art objects.
A unique and characterful piece that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors, bringing a quiet sense of Japanese refinement into any space.
The table can be picked up in our store in Antwerp, Belgium.
