Japanese Mid-century School Globe 'ALCO', on Black Base, 1980s
This large Japanese globe is a striking piece with a clear provenance. The base still carries the original inventory label from a Japanese junior high school—Takane Junior High School in the town of Hidaka.
Dimensions: height 82 cm, globe diameter 40 cm.
Made by ALCO, the globe features Japanese-language cartography and fine graphic detailing, including ocean current lines and a stated scale of 1:28,000,000. A metal meridian ring with degree markings encircles the sphere, allowing it to be tilted and rotated smoothly. The elegantly shaped, black-lacquered base gives the globe a strong, sculptural presence.
In a contemporary interior, it works instantly as an eye-catcher—on a desk, in a library corner, in an office, or as a statement piece on a sideboard.
Condition: very good.
