Product Details

This compact Japanese tansu cabinet is a remarkably practical storage piece with a calm, dark appearance.

Dimensions: height 59.5 cm, width 58 cm, depth 31 cm. The piece dates to the Meiji period, circa 1910.

The layout is typically functional and thoughtfully designed. At the top are two smaller drawers for accessories and small items. Below is a wide drawer spanning the full width, followed by a generous bottom drawer for larger contents. At the lower right is a small door with a striking decorative lock plate; behind it are two additional small drawers that keep everything neatly out of sight. The dark fronts are beautifully set off by iron corner fittings and understated handles. Wooden side grips make the cabinet easy to move.

The piece is in nicely lived-in condition, with patina and signs of use visible in the photos. In a contemporary interior, it works brilliantly as compact storage for stationery, paperwork, cables, small objects, or everyday essentials.

It is a versatile accent piece that adds warmth and character to both minimalist spaces and more eclectic interiors.
