Product Details

A unique vintage terracotta sculpture of a Japanese warrior, inspired by traditional haniwa figures from the Kofun period.

Dimensions: Height 41 cm, width 19 cm, depth 17 cm. In good condition.

This piece was crafted in the 1950s in Miyazaki, a region celebrated for preserving Japan’s artisanal traditions and archaeological heritage.

The figure depicts a warrior clad in tankō armor—an early form of Japanese battle gear—wearing a helmet with distinctive detailing. The minimalist forms, geometric patterns, and serene, expressionless face are hallmarks of the haniwa style, originally created as tomb ornaments and spiritual guardians.

The base of the sculpture bears a handwritten inscription, revealing it was once gifted as a wedding present—adding a layer of historical and personal significance.

A rare and characterful Japanese eye-catcher, perfectly suited for minimalist, wabi-sabi, or modern interiors.
