Product Details

This vintage Japanese porcelain bowl dates from the 1950s.

Dimensions: height 9.5 cm, diameter 27 cm.

The inside is decorated with a dynamic composition of pine (matsu), bamboo (take) and plum blossoms (ume): deep blue-green brushstrokes for the branches and leaves, accented with white blossoms. The decoration continues subtly along the rim, so the bowl remains visually striking both on the table and when styled in an open shelf.

The Sho Chiku Bai motif (pine, bamboo and plum blossom) is a classic Japanese symbol of good fortune and prosperity, often used on everyday wares meant to be enjoyed in the home.

Practically, this is a lovely serving bowl for rice, noodles, salads or fruit, but it also works beautifully as a decorative piece.

Condition: very good, with only light signs of wear consistent with age.
