Japanese Zen Calligraphy by Asanuma Ichidō – “Great Blessing”
Japanese Zen calligraphy on a gold-colored shikishi (色紙), signed and sealed by Asanuma Ichidō (淺沼一道, 1933–2021), a master of expressive brushwork deeply rooted in Zen philosophy.
Dimensions (including frame): height 45 cm, width 42 cm, depth 4.5 cm. In perfect condition.
The dynamic brushstrokes form the phrase 大吉祥 (Daikisshō), which translates to “great blessing and good fortune.” To the left, an ancient form of the character for “blessing” is written, referencing the traditional sheep symbol historically associated with peace and prosperity. On the reverse side of the shikishi, a handwritten explanation in ink further clarifies the meaning of the inscription.
Executed on a shimmering gold background that subtly reflects the light, the work is professionally mounted in a minimalist wooden frame behind glass. An additional document containing the artist’s biography is included at the back of the frame.
This piece merges spiritual depth with visual simplicity, making it a refined and meaningful accent for both modern and traditional interiors.
