Japanese Kamakura-bori Haribako ‘Bamboo’, Small Storage Cabinet, 1960s
Decorative Japanese storage cabinet in Kamakura-bori, fitted with three drawers and richly carved with a bamboo motif across the front. The deep reddish-brown and near-black tones give the piece considerable depth, while the repeating pattern on the sides and top creates a strong graphic rhythm. The combination of sculpted relief, dark sheen, and compact form gives this piece a refined and characterful presence.
Dimensions: height 24,5 cm, width 23 cm, depth 23 cm.
The three drawers provide practical storage for small items such as jewellery, sewing tools, writing materials, hobby supplies, photographs, cards, or other objects you prefer to keep neatly out of sight. Thanks to its almost cube-like proportions, this cabinet also works beautifully on a desk, wall shelf, sideboard, or bedside table.
The carved bamboo decoration connects the piece to traditional Japanese visual language, while its clean form makes it equally suitable for a calm, contemporary interior. It is the kind of object that is both functional and atmospheric.
There is a gold-coloured calligraphic inscription on the back.
The cabinet is in very good condition, with only light, normal signs of age and use consistent with the material and period.
