Small Japanese Kamakura-bori Make-up Cabinet with Mirror, 1960s

Atmospheric small Japanese make-up cabinet in Kamakura-bori technique, with a beautifully carved bamboo motif on the front.

Dimensions: height 40 cm, width 27 cm, depth 22.5 cm.

The dark brown lacquer is softly worn on the edges, allowing the warm red underlayer to show through and accentuate the carved relief. The sides are decorated in the same pattern all around, which makes the piece visually interesting from every angle.

The front panel folds open and reveals a large rectangular mirror. Inside are three practical drawers: at the top a shallow open tray, perfect for keeping taller bottles, skincare jars or everyday make-up within easy reach, and below that two deeper drawers for jewellery, cosmetics or other small items.

This compact cabinet is ideal as a small dressing or make-up piece next to the bed, on a sideboard or in the bathroom, and also works beautifully as a jewellery or accessory box. Even when closed it remains a true eye-catcher, thanks to the decorative Kamakura-bori carving and the warm tone of the lacquer.

In good, well-kept vintage condition, with minor signs of use consistent with age.
