Product Details

This vintage metal case contains tools of a Hanko-Shi (判子師), a Japanese craftsman specializing in the creation of hanko stamps.

Dimensions: height 20.5 cm, width 30 cm, depth 25 cm.

The top compartment of the case holds four retractable metal plates with rubber examples of Japanese characters. These rubber stamps were used to make impressions on wood, from which the hanko was carved.

Beneath these plates is a stock of hanko stamps stored in old cans. Interestingly, the cans are vintage cigarette packaging from the brand ‘PEACE.’ There are approximately 400 hanko stamps in the cans.

A unique find and a fascinating collectible for those interested in Japanese curiosities.

The clasp of the metal case is no longer functional.
