Characterful Japanese tansu from the late Meiji period, made in beautifully dark wood with a warm, timeworn patina and understated black iron hardware. The broad proportions, calm front and subtle contrast between the deep-toned wood and the dark metal details give this piece exactly the restrained strength that works so well in a refined, minimalist interior.

Dimensions: height 52.5 cm, width 87.5 cm, depth 45 cm.

The layout is clear and highly practical. At the top is one wide drawer, with a second spacious drawer below running across almost the full width. On the right is a small door opening to reveal two smaller inner drawers, ideal for storing smaller belongings separately and neatly. This combination of broad storage space and more compact drawers makes the piece both functional and visually strong.

Today, this tansu works not only as a practical storage cabinet, but also beautifully as a low display piece for ceramics, ikebana, sculptural objects or books. In a calm living space, hallway, bedroom or workspace, it brings an immediate sense of warmth, natural character and quiet authenticity.

The wood has a beautiful rich grain and honest traces of use that further enhance the character of the piece.
