Product Details

A rare set of figurines from the 1950s, depicting Okame and Hyottoko drinking sake.

The figurines are approximately 27.5 cm tall and measure 18 cm by 18 cm.

These two plaster figurines are displayed on a beautifully hand-carved wooden stand. This is a rare, unique, and complete set in very good condition.

The Okame figure holds a small porcelain sake bottle (Arita), while the Hyottoko figure holds an ochoko (お猪口), a porcelain sake cup.

Okame is a traditional Japanese character, often depicted as a female figure with a round, cheerful face and a wide smile. In Japanese folklore, Okame, also known as Otafuku or Oomukade, symbolizes happiness, joy, and prosperity. Her plump face contributes to her hearty laugh and playful appearance.

Hyottoko is another traditional Japanese character, often shown with a comical face, typically with a crooked eye and a distorted mouth. In Japanese folklore, Hyottoko is known as a humorous and playful figure, symbolizing humor, good luck, and the desire to ward off evil spirits.
