Beautifully Weathered Japanese Cutting Table, Meiji Period.
Beautifully weathered Japanese cutting table from the Meiji period.
Dimensions: Height 9.5 cm, width 92.5 cm, depth 85.5 cm.
This low cutting table, also referred to as a 'cutting board', was used during the Meiji period (1868-1912) by merchants, restaurants, or at temple festivals to prepare ingredients. Due to intensive use, the table has developed a unique and beautifully weathered appearance.
The underside of this exceptional piece has darkened beautifully and bears traces of hand-painted Japanese calligraphy.
Today, these cutting tables are highly sought after as low side tables and are perfect for displaying beautiful interior objects.
Additionally, as original wall decor, the table can add an authentic wabi-sabi feel to your interior.
