Sculptural Ceramic Mythical Jackal, Gennaro Condurso, Italy

A tall and sculptural ceramic object from Seminara in Calabria, made by Gennaro Condurso.

A handmade and unique piece, of which only one example exists.

Dimensions: height 53 cm, diameter 13 cm.

This remarkable object has a slender, tower-like form and is crowned by an expressive animal head reminiscent of a mythical jackal or guardian dog. The body is richly worked with open sections, relief details, geometric motifs and free brushstrokes. Deep blue tones are combined with red, yellow, green, black and white, giving the piece a powerful, almost ritual presence.

The openings in the ceramic add depth and make the object especially decorative as a sculpture. It could also be converted into an atmospheric lamp, provided a suitable light fitting is installed. The open structure would allow the light to pass beautifully through the body.

The work is connected to the expressive ceramic tradition of Seminara, where fantasy figures, protective symbolism, animal heads and colourful decoration often come together. At the same time, this piece has a very individual, modern and artistic presence.
